John McDermott has practiced law in Canon City since completing his service with the United States Army in 1973. Before coming to Canon City, Mr. McDermott was a captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG), posting at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico and at Seneca Army Depot in upper New York State.
He is joined by Todd Spanier, a recent graduate of the University of Colorado College of Law, and his son, Shawn, who grew up in Canon City and currently practices law in Denver.

The other box is a reprint of a guest editorial regarding changes in automobile insurance law appearing in a July 2003 issue of the Daily Record.
That editorial is still very timely. The firm continues to advise its clients to purchase as much automobile insurance as they can afford, especially uninsured/underinsured insurance coverage.
In 2003 Colorado switched from no-fault auto insurance back to a fault based system, which remains in effect today. The change in law completely changed the landscape of what to do when someone is hurt in an automobile or motorcycle accident, driving home the need for attorneys to stay current in the law.
Dealing with an insurance company is not a do-it-yourself proposition, and almost always requires more than what inexperienced lawyers have to offer, including some of those who advertise on TV.
