Harley-Davidson Recall on Many 2014 Models; Hydraulic Clutch System

November 19, 2013

Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company has determined the existence of a defect related to motor vehicle safety on certain 2014 touring models.  These models include: FLHTCU (Electra Glide Ultra Classic), FLHTK (Ultra Limited), FLHTP (Electra Glide Police), FLHX (Street Glide) FLHXS (Street Glide Special), FLHTKSE (Limited CVO), and FLHRSE (Screamin’ Eagle Road King).  Notices have been sent to the purchasers of these 2014 models within the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.  The problem relates to the hydraulic clutch system which may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch.  Whenever the clutch does not disengage as intended, the rider may have difficulty slowing or stopping the motorcycle.  Such incidents could cause a crash and potential injury or death of the rider and/or passenger, according to the Safety Recall Notice.

I am the owner of a 2014 Street Glide Special myself.  Following notice of this recall, my bike was repaired, at no cost, by Harley.  Although I did not experience any incidents myself, there have been reported problems by some riders.  If you have experienced an issue with your 2014 Harley hydraulic clutch which has led to property damage, injury or death, you should contact a motorcycle accident attorney who can perform an investigation to determine if you have a claim.  You may contact me, Shawn McDermott at (303) 964-1800 or by email, for a free assessment of your claim.
