McDermott Attends "Estate Planning Update" Conference

John McDermott has just returned from a one day conference among Colorado estate planners.

The Colorado Bar Association's annual "Estate Planning Update" was hosted by Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc., at the association's offices in Denver.

Topics covered included current issues in estate planning, funding the marital deduction for the mid-sized estate, recent amendments to the Colorado statutes concerning trust administration, and how to deal with the ever-changing federal estate tax law.

Attendees were reminded that even though the federal estate tax law is scheduled to be suspended in the year 2010, it will spring back to life in 2011.  What is needed in the meantime are innovative and flexible planning approaches to fit each individual client's needs.

"It is simply not possible to stay current in the ever-changing estate planning arena without attending one or more of these courses every year," said McDermott.  "People who think they can ignore estate planning because of the presently scheduled repeal of the federal estate tax are really just kidding themselves.  Good planning is more important than ever, regardless of the size of one's estate."

John McDermott is the senior attorney practicing with the McDermott Law Firm at 303 North Seventh Street in Caņon City. The firm's phone number is (719) 275-4126. For more information, individuals may access the firm's website at: www.mcdermottlawfirm.com.
