BARBARA WIEDERSTEIN joined the McDermott Law Firm in February 2002, after practicing law for many years in Texas.

Barbara is "almost-a-native" having moved to Colorado at one year of age and attended Canon City public schools until moving on to the University of Colorado. There she majored in anthropology and obtained her bachelors degree with distinction in 1973 and her law degree in 1976.

After completing law school, Barbara practiced law in El Paso, Texas, for over 20 years. She began her legal career with the El Paso Legal Assistance Society and from 1977 through 1981 was the Project Coordinator of the Society's Older Americans Legal Services Center. This federally funded program provided free legal services to elderly persons. In 1981, she entered private practice in El Paso, first with attorney Raymond C. Caballero, and in 1985 with the firm of Grambling & Mounce (now known as Mounce, Green, Myers, Safi & Galatzan). Her practice over the years in El Paso included a wide variety of legal work, beginning with a general law practice with emphasis on plaintiff's personal injury and medical malpractice litigation while working with Mr. Caballero. Upon joining the Grambling & Mounce firm, her practice gravitated toward personal injury defense, appellate work, and ultimately emphasized medical malpractice defense and health law issues.

During her years in El Paso, she was inducted as a Lifetime Fellow into the Texas Bar Foundation and was a member of the El Paso (Texas) Bar Association (serving on the Board of Directors from 1996 to 1998), the El Paso Women's Bar Association, the Texas Defense Lawyers Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the State Bar of Texas Dist. 17 Comm. on Admissions.

In 2000, Barbara decided it was time to come home to family and friends in Colorado. She resigned as a shareholder of Mounce, Green, Myers, Safi & Galatzan and returned to Canon City.  After taking some time off to build and move into a new home in Penrose and pursue other personal interests, Barbara returned to the practice of law with the McDermott Law Firm in February 2002.

She is a member of the Colorado Bar Association (Trust and Estate Section) and the Fremont/Custer Counties Bar Association, currently serving as vice president.
